Each year the Physical Therapy Education Program at the Medical University of South Carolina makes an effort to inform interested parties about changes in prerequisite requirements, the admission process, and the curriculum. One of the most significant changes is the replacement of the 2 year Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy degree with a 3 year Master of Science in Rehabilitation - Physical Therapy degree. All students applying in upcoming years will enter a 3-year master's degree program. We will continue to require 90 semester hours of prerequisites and the only minor change will be for applicants applying in the fall of 1997 for the June 1998 start date. See Appendix 1 for prerequisites.

Ms. Lisa Nichols will be assuming the position of Physical Therapy Education Admissions Coordinator as of July 1, 1996. She may be reached at (803) 792-2961 and hopes to hear from individuals who have questions or concerns.

We will be increasing our enrollment in the Physical Therapy Education Program to approximately 70 students. Fifty students will be placed on the Charleston campus and approximately 20 students will be selected for placement at our new satellite program in Greenville, SC. The applications are the same for each and will be available in August. There will be an insert in the application for applicants to specify their choice of campus. A reminder that all application materials must be received in the MUSC Office of Enrollment Services by November 1.

1995 was the first time in many years that an interview was part of the admissions process. The top 120 ranked applicants participated in a full day interview that consisted of small group activities, an individual interview with a panel of three interviewers, and an essay that was graded by a professor with a Ph.D. in English. Response from both applicants and interviewers was positive and the interview significantly affected the selection process. Many students were admitted who would not have been accepted based on their GPA and test scores alone. Interviews will again be required as part of the application process.
