BIOL 103, H103 General Biology I 4(3,3)

The first course in a two-semester sequence on the fundamentals of biology. Lecture and laboratory emphasize the structural, molecular, and energetic basis of cellular activities, fundamentals of genetic variability, reproductive strategies of organisms, and scientific processes. Diversity of animals and principles of evolution are introduced.

This course is intended to fulfill General Education requirements for students enrolled in science and health-related curricula. It is intended for students majoring in scientific or technical areas including the natural sciences, agriculture, forestry, science teaching, or health-related disciplines. Professional schools, e.g., medical, pharmacy, dental, veterinary, etc., will accept this course as fulfilling their biology requirement.

Credit toward a degree will be given for only one combination of the following: BIOL 110 or 103 followed by BIOL 111 or 104 dependent on the requirements for the major.
